Water Problem Solved for a Happy (Repeat?) Customer

The Vinyl Porch Rail Company—owned and operated by DekTek PRO Jason Nuckols—has been helping homeowners, business owners, and contractors enhance their property with beautiful, low-maintenance designs since 1996. “My main line of business is vinyl railing systems,” Jason said. “We fabricate made-to-fit systems for people. We also do screen porches, deck renovations, and more.”

New Installation Method (and a Beautiful Deck!) from Gitt Construction

Gitt Construction Inc., an Omaha-based construction company that was inducted in 2017 as a “Big50” remodeler by REMODELING magazine, is a DekTek PRO Dealer. They showcase DekTek Tile at their location and are always looking for the right projects and applications for the product. When we heard that Mike Gitt, owner of Gitt Construction, had recently completed a DekTek project using a unique method, we had to hear the story.

DekTek Tile’s New Walk-Out Patio Application—Built By New Jersey Contractor & DekTek PRO Installer T-3 Construction LLC

The first time T-3 Construction LLC used DekTek Tile for a project, it turned out to be a perfect fit to solve a homeowner’s dilemma. The homeowner wanted a patio behind their home, but ground-laid pavers weren’t an option because of the home’s location in a flood zone. Jake Taylor, owner of T-3 Construction LLC in New Jersey, remembers the dilemma: “If the customer installed a regular patio, he would need to have a step down from his sliding doors, but he wanted to go right out with no step. This is how we got to use DekTek Tile—it was the perfect fit for the customer. We installed standard foundation posts and built the framing right on ground level, with all the proper drainage so the water clears out and doesn’t flood.”

We discovered this outdoor decking option from our builder and it was exactly what my husband wanted. No fuss or upkeep needed for our deck/upper level screened in porch flooring.

We were able to modify our color selection from the pecan medley color scheme and we are very happy with the look and durability. The owners worked with us to find a more affordable shipper and their customer service is great.

What size are DekTek Tiles and how much do they weigh?

Each tile is 1" x 16" x 16" nominal (1.78 square foot), and the tiles weighs roughly 11 pounds per square foot, which is a total approximate weight of 20 pounds per tile. Although DekTek tiles weigh a little more than composite decking, most standard wood-framed decks are sufficient to support the DekTek pavers. You can ask your local lumber yard if the wood joists are sufficient? They usually have engineering facts to verify the load capacity of your existing deck.
